Riding Center Rules and Policies

The following list of rules has been compiled in an effort to promote safety and common courtesy at the Center.  We ask that you carefully review this list and adhere to these policies.  We are grateful for your support and cooperation. Please continue to enjoy and respect our facility.

Safety First

Please Be Considerate

Everyone has a different goal when he or she arrives at the Riding Center.  Courtesy and safety must guide your behavior.  Respecting the disciplines and personal objectives of all riders is expected.  Please show consideration to all riders.  The goal of the Barrington Countryside Park District is for all to enjoy and use the Riding Center facility safely.

Please contact the Park District Office at (847)783-6772 to report compliance issues.

Note: Repeated violators risk having their Riding Center privileges suspended.

  1. Barrington Countryside Park District Riding Center is an unsupervised facility.  Warning: Horse back riding is an inherently dangerous activity.  Ride at your own risk.  You assume all risk.
  2. Signed waivers are required for use of the Barrington Countryside Park District Riding Center facilities and property.
  3. SEI/ASTM approved hard hats are required for all mounted activity on the Barrington Countryside Park District Riding Center property and facilities.
  4. Dogs must be leashed at all times while on Barrington Countryside Park District Property and Cook County Forest Preserve Property by Cook County Ordinance.
  5. Do not leave your horse unattended in arenas or on cross ties.  You must remain on Park District property while your horse is in the Park District paddocks.
  6. No tying of horses in arenas.
  7. No lunging when mounted riders present.  No unmounted or in-hand work while mounted riders are present.
  8. No riding in aisles.
  9. Announce your arrival at all doors and gates.
  10. When riders meet each other face to face they should always pass each other left leg to left leg. 
  11. Clean-up after your horse -- including stalls, aisles, wash racks, and parking areas.  Empty muck buckets.
  12. Turn off all lights when you leave.
  13. Limit paddock turn-out to 1/2 hour (no turn-out when footing is soft) if others are waiting to use the paddock.
  14. All riders are welcome to ride in rings during lessons except during scheduled Pony Club Lesson time.
  15. Indoor Ring -- Remove all jumps, barrels, poles, cones and dressage letters after use.  Return all equipment to the jump storage stall.
  16. Outdoor Ring -- Three jumps remain in the outdoor ring.  Remove any additional jumps, poles, barrels, cones and dressage letters after use.
  17. Horses may not be left over night.  However, in an emergency please leave your name and phone number on the stall door and contact a Advisory Committee representative.
  18. Ring maintenance has priority and is typically done between 5:00 and 8:30 AM.  Please do not enter the arenas during maintenance and exit the ring immediately for maintenance.  Maintenance schedules may vary due to changing conditions and priorities.
  19. During the Indoor Season (November 1 through April 30) please adhere to the Winter Indoor Arena Schedule.
  20. Please contact the Park District Office (847)783-6772 with any maintenance or repair issues or use the feedback form on the Barrington Countryside Park District web site: http://www.bc-pd.org.
  21. Please park in designated areas only.

·         No parking along the East side of the main barn and indoor arena.

  1. No running, yelling, or roughhousing anytime, anywhere.
  2. Smoking prohibited on Park District property.
  3. Speed limit 10 mph or less on Riding Center property.
